September Holiday Swim Program

September 2026 SwimSafer Correction Program at Queenstown Swimming Complex
Failed SwimSafer Stage 3, 4, 5 or 6? AQZOG Has a 3-Day Solution
Is your child preparing for a MOE SwimSafer test but struggling with certain components?
Did your child recently fail SwimSafer Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5 (Silver), or Stage 6 (Gold)?
Or perhaps your child is already attending regular swimming lessons but continues to struggle with difficult skills such as somersaults, underwater swimming, survival skills, stroke technique or the required swim timing?
This September 2026 school holiday, AQZOG Swim School is introducing a different approach at Queenstown Swimming Complex — a focused 3-Day SwimSafer Correction Program designed specifically to identify mistakes, correct technique and build confidence before the next assessment.
Instead of simply repeating the same swimming lesson, AQZOG focuses on what went wrong and how to fix it.

⏱️ 3 focused training sessions
This program is especially suitable for children who have recently attempted their SwimSafer assessment and did not achieve the required standard.
Why Is This 3-Day Program Different?
Many children who fail a SwimSafer assessment do not necessarily need to start from the beginning.
They may already know how to swim.
The problem could be one or two specific components that are preventing them from meeting the assessment requirements.
For example, a child may be comfortable swimming freestyle but struggle with:
- Underwater skills
- Somersaults
- Sculling
- Body orientation
- Survival skills
- Breaststroke technique
- Backstroke technique
- Entry and exit techniques
- Treading water
- SwimSafer sequence requirements
- Stage 5 Silver timing
- Stage 6 Gold timing
- Performing skills continuously without stopping
This is where targeted correction becomes important.
Instead of spending weeks repeating everything, AQZOG’s September program concentrates on the problem areas that are holding the swimmer back.
SwimSafer Stage 3 & 4: Correct the Foundation
Stage 3 and Stage 4 represent an important progression in a child’s SwimSafer journey.
At these stages, children are expected to demonstrate greater control, coordination and confidence in the water.
A child may be able to complete an individual skill during normal swimming lessons but struggle when the skills are combined during an assessment.
Common difficulties may include:
Underwater skills
Children may hesitate when putting their face underwater, retrieving objects or performing underwater movements.
Somersaults
Some swimmers lose body position, become disorientated or fail to complete the movement smoothly.
Sculling and body orientation
Incorrect hand position or body alignment can make these skills much harder.
Survival skills
A child may know the technique but struggle to maintain the correct position for the required duration.
Stroke technique
Poor breathing, body position or coordination can affect overall performance.
The September correction program gives swimmers an opportunity to isolate these problems and work on them repeatedly under coaching supervision.
SwimSafer Stage 5 Silver: Timing Can Make a Big Difference
Stage 5 is where many swimmers discover that simply being able to swim is not always enough.
The swimmer must be able to demonstrate the required skills efficiently and consistently.
One common concern among Stage 5 swimmers is swimming timing.
A swimmer may have reasonable technique but lose valuable seconds because of:
- Poor streamlining
- Inefficient kicking
- Excessive breathing
- Weak turns
- Incorrect body position
- Starting too slowly
- Poor pacing
- Unnecessary pauses
The solution is not always to swim harder.
Sometimes the swimmer needs to swim smarter.
AQZOG coaches can identify areas of inefficiency and help the swimmer develop better technique and pacing.
SwimSafer Stage 6 Gold: The Final Challenge
Stage 6 Gold represents a significant milestone in the SwimSafer journey.
At this level, swimmers need greater confidence, consistency, stamina and technical ability.
Children preparing for Stage 6 may struggle with:
🏊 Swim Timing
Meeting the required timing can be challenging when technique is inefficient.
🌊 Underwater Skills
Some swimmers become uncomfortable when required to perform underwater sequences.
🔄 Somersaults
Poor coordination can affect the swimmer’s ability to execute the movement smoothly.
🛟 Survival Skills
The swimmer needs to remain controlled and composed while performing survival techniques.
💪 Stamina
A swimmer may have the technical ability but become tired before completing the assessment.
The September program provides concentrated practice so swimmers can focus on their individual weaknesses.
Who Should Join the September 2026 Program?
This program is particularly suitable for:
✅ Children who recently failed SwimSafer Stage 3
✅ Children who recently failed SwimSafer Stage 4
✅ Children who recently failed SwimSafer Stage 5 Silver
✅ Children who recently failed SwimSafer Stage 6 Gold
✅ Existing AQZOG students struggling with specific components
✅ Children having difficulty with somersaults
✅ Children who are uncomfortable with underwater skills
✅ Stage 5 swimmers struggling with timing
✅ Stage 6 swimmers preparing for their next assessment
✅ Parents who want targeted correction instead of simply repeating regular lessons
Don’t Just Repeat — Correct
One of the biggest mistakes parents can make after a failed assessment is simply telling their child:
“Try again next time.”
Trying again is important, but correcting the reason for the previous failure is even more important.
If the same technique is repeated incorrectly, the same problem may appear during the next assessment.
AQZOG’s approach is simple:
Identify → Correct → Practise → Build Confidence → Prepare
The objective is to help the swimmer understand what needs improvement and give them focused opportunities to practise it.
Why Choose AQZOG?
AQZOG Swim School focuses on more than simply teaching children how to swim.
Our coaching approach combines:
Water Confidence + Survival Skills + Swimming Skills
This allows coaches to look at the swimmer as a whole rather than focusing only on one stroke.
For children preparing for SwimSafer, this can be particularly useful because the assessment involves multiple areas of aquatic skills.
AQZOG’s experienced coaches can help swimmers break difficult skills into manageable steps and progressively build confidence.
3 Days. Focused Training. Specific Corrections.
The September holiday program is intentionally designed as a 3-day intensive correction program.
Rather than spreading the same training over a long period, the concentrated format allows swimmers to work on their weaknesses across three sessions.
Day 1 — Identify & Correct
Focus on identifying problem areas and correcting technique.
Day 2 — Reinforce & Practise
Repeat the corrected skills and build consistency.
Day 3 — Combine & Test
Put the skills together and practise under conditions that are closer to an assessment environment.
This does not guarantee a passing result — every swimmer has different abilities and improvement rates — but targeted preparation can give swimmers a better understanding of the required skills and improve their readiness for the next assessment.
Queenstown Swimming Complex: Convenient September Holiday Training
The program will be conducted at Queenstown Swimming Complex, making it convenient for families looking for a central location for focused SwimSafer preparation during the September school holidays.
The morning training schedule is:
7 September 2026 — 9:30am to 10:45am
9 September 2026 — 9:30am to 10:45am
11 September 2026 — 9:30am to 10:45am
Three sessions. One focused objective:
Help your child overcome the SwimSafer components they are struggling with.
Your Child Doesn’t Have to Give Up
Failing a SwimSafer assessment can be disappointing for a child.
However, failure does not mean that the child cannot swim.
It simply means that more work may be required in certain areas.
With the right correction, practice and encouragement, children can become more confident and better prepared for their next attempt.
If your child is struggling with Stage 3, Stage 4, Stage 5 Silver or Stage 6 Gold, the September holiday program may be the opportunity to focus on those difficult components.
