About Queenstown Swimming Complex
Queenstown Swimming Complex holds a proud place in Singapore’s social history. When it opened on 15 August 1970, it became the first public swimming pool built inside a HDB housing estate, marking a milestone in the government’s early push to deliver recreational facilities directly into residential neighbourhoods.
Formerly known as Queenstown Sport and Recreation Centre, the complex is instantly recognisable for its distinctive elevated architecture featuring tetrahedral design elements that give swimmers and spectators an elevated panoramic view of the surrounding estate. This unusual structural character makes it one of Singapore’s most architecturally memorable public pools.
For over five decades, it served generations of families from Queenstown, Commonwealth, Tanglin Halt and nearby estates. The complex was the training ground of the Singapore national water polo team and home to the Queenstown Water Polo Club, cementing its status as a serious competitive aquatics venue, not merely a recreational amenity. Today, it continues to attract a loyal mix of local residents and expatriates drawn to its facilities, community programmes, and heritage character.
