SwimSafer Stage 6 (Gold): Comprehensive Guide
Diving and Swimming Skills
- Standing Dive Entry: Perform a standing dive entry in a pool with a depth of 1.8 meters (updated as of June 1, 2024).
- Water Push Off: All strokes start with a water push-off from the wall (updated as of June 1, 2024).
Strokes and Timings
- Front Crawl: Swim 100 meters within 3:00 minutes.
- Breaststroke: Swim 100 meters within 4:00 minutes.
- Backstroke: Swim 100 meters within 3:20 minutes.
- Survival Backstroke: Swim 50 meters.
- Sidestroke: Swim 50 meters.
- Butterfly: Swim 15 meters.
Gold Sequence: Without Goggles
- Attire and Demonstration: Dressed in swimwear, long pants, and a t-shirt, perform the following sequence:
- Compact Jump Entry: Enter deep water using a compact jump.
- Head-First Surface Dive: Perform a head-first surface dive to a depth of at least 1.8 meters, performing ear equalization if necessary.
- Underwater Swim: Swim through hoops on the pool bottom for 5 meters and resurface.
- Quick Front Crawl: Swim 45 meters quickly using front crawl.
- Survival Swim Stroke: Swim slowly for a further 50 meters using any preferred survival swim stroke, ensuring the face remains clear of water.
- Remove Pants and Float: In deep water, remove pants and make a float with them while treading water within 5 minutes.
- H.E.L.P. Technique: Demonstrate the Heat Escape Lessening Posture (H.E.L.P.) technique for 1 minute with the self-made float.
- PFD Swim: Swim 25 meters with the self-made float.
- Exit the Water: Climb out of the water.

What are the common mistakes found in Swimsafer Stage 6 Gold?
The Sequence of making a float using the pant. Some tie 2 knots instead of a single knot. Some do not know how to tie a knot. And more practise is required.
What is the hardest in this stage?
Swimming without goggle for a prolong distance. The 5m underwater swimming skills and the swim timing for backstrokes are abit challenging.
What tips would you give to pass this stage?
Swim regularly and do not miss lesson. Ask the coach if you are not sure what to do. Ask the coach to time your swim of 100m for front crawl, breaststroke and backstroke. Find out what are your weakness base on the checklist and work on it. What would you recommend after passing Swimsafer Gold?
YOu can choose either Swimming Proficiency Award or Life Saving 1, Life Saving 2 and Life Saving 3. For SSPA, this module will cover competitive strokes including butterfly. The aim of the SSPA is to allow your child to be a competitive swimmer or simply to improve his swim technique and swim timing. FOr Lifesaving, this is another roadmap for those who wish to be a life guard or enhance their job opportunitiy in the aquatic environment such as a swimming coach.
